I’m not a huge fan of suspense or the brevity of the Love Inspired category lines. However I have still discovered a few gems amongst these authors along the way and the books make for a quick read when I need a break from the intensity of much of my other reading. Alicia witnessed the death of her best friend as a young teen. Despite attempts to discourage further investigation and bury her observations in lies with their money, Alicia cannot deny that what she saw incriminates the son of the wealthiest family in her hometown. No one believes her and all seem to think her mind is warped to even insist on what she claims to have seen but two decades later fingers begin to point in Larry Fremont’s direction once again and Mark Bishop encourages Alicia to risk coming forward once again with what she saw so many years ago to try and protect not only herself and her daughter but those closest to Larry and his victims who could be next on the hit list if he does indeed dispose of those who foil his design. While I miss the deeper development of both plot and characters in bulkier books, I still found this to be an intriguing story that held my attention. Hall also managed to draw me into her characters to a degree that I rarely encounter in such brief narratives. I just may have to seek out other titles by this author when I am digging for a quick read with sufficient meat to satisfy my reading appetite when I tire of the more intense novels.
