This is not my typical reading choice however it was a riveting story with characters that find their way into a reader’s imagination and set up housekeeping. Kaitlan stumbles across real crime in her own isolated apartment that appears to be linked to a series of crimes in the area over several months. Her estranged grandfather, Darell Brooke, is a suspense writer who struggles with developing a new book after a serious accident impaired his focus and concentration. His books were bestsellers and he is afraid of not living up to the reputation of his prior works among other things. Kaitlan quickly deduces that her boyfriend, a cop and son of a cop, seems to be somehow connected to the scene at her apartment and pays a visit to her grandfather attempting to solicit his assistance in dealing with the mess she is now thrust into. He agrees to help if he can but also sends her back into the lion’s den for the family party celebrating Hallie’s (her boyfriend Craig’s sister) birthday the same night.

After she manages once again to elude him and hide away in her grandfather’s fortified “castle”, she is still looking over her shoulder and hoping Craig can’t find her. She also hopes that she doesn’t end up framed for a crime she had nothing to do with. In this page turner you’ll find an ending twist that shocked me and many tense scenes along the way to keep you wondering who will make it and who will be sacrificed in the attempt to nip this crime spree once and for all. This was definitely worth the departure from my usual choices and for those who crave murder, mayhem and thrills you just might find a new must read author when you pick up a Brandilyn Collins novel for the first time.
