Daughters of Boston Giveaway

Well friends here's the contest I promised and Julie has already been posting about around the web.

I have a second set of all 3 Daughters of Boston books so am giving away the spares. Three winners will each get one of the books.

So to enter leave a comment here with your choice of book and something about a character or story in one of the books that caught your attention. If you haven't read any of them yet, you can still discover quite a stash of ideas here in my interview today as well as a more general interview you'll find in the left sidebar links under author interviews plus reviews of the first two books I've posted.

You have until next Tuesday the 26th to leave your comments. Questions to Julie are welcome here or on the interview post as well. I won't promise but I suspect she'll be dropping by every so often to check out comments and questions. On the 27th I'll draw three names, one for each book and contact the winners. Be sure to leave an email address to contact you - disguised from spammers of course. Oh and due to cost of postage I can only send to US/Canada for winners. Sorry my readers and friends from overseas.

As my review says Faith learns that prayer truly does move mountains or in this case stubborn men. Share in your comment about a time that prayer has moved what seemed like a mountain from your perspective.

I will be drawing a name on July 16th for a winner of this book. Be sure and leave me a way to contact you in your comment. If I don't receive a reply within 48 hours when I contact the winner a new name will be drawn as I will be passing on the info so the book can be sent to the winner and it must be in by the 21st.

The Bunko Babes Giveaway

Leah Starr Baker: a Christian, a wife, a mother, a born storyteller. The daughter of a minister/author, Leah wasn't born with a silver spoon in her mouth. No instead, she was teethed on the Gospel. Living in the hill country of western Colorado until the age of ten, she spent many a night listening to the early beginnings of her father's writings. It was there that she learned the true beauty of the English language and the power of the pen. From Colorado, her family moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma and though the life of a preacher's kid was challenging at times, Leah wore the mantel of role model well. Leah had big dreams and a multitude of talents. In 1994, she found her soul mate, Douglas Baker, and they were married later that year. He, like Leah, was a dreamer and a huge supporter of her dreams. With his help, she went on to be crowned Mrs. Oklahoma 1995 and to record three demos and one entire album in Nashville, Tennessee before turning her sights entirely upon the joys of being a wife and perhaps a mother. But life as a wife was difficult for such a spirited young woman and before long Leah was immersed in the world of politics. But the birth of two children in less than 18 months put her political aspirations on the back burner. Never one to rest on her laurels, Leah began a real estate career when Alexandria was four and Deuce was two. After a promising start, she was stricken with an unexplainable illness. After months of testing it was discovered that she had Systemic Lupus, a chronic disease that affects the immune system. Before long, she was forced to stop working entirely. Trapped at home in a body that refused to cooperate, she turned to her forgotten love...writing. It didn't take much time to rekindle the flames and within three months her first novel was complete and she began work on Bunko Babes. Without a doubt, Leah has a promising career as a novelist ahead of her and we look forward with great anticipation to additional stories from this shooting STARR. Leah Starr Baker: a Christian, a wife, a mother, a born storyteller. That one sentence encapsulates her entire life. For that is what she is and what she will always be. A born storyteller, Leah has spent her life turning her own tragedies and triumphs into entertainment and encouragement for others.

101 Cups of Water by C. D. Baker - Review and Giveaway

Waterbrook Press (January 2008)
ISBN 9781400073993
Hardback $13.99
Genre: Devotional/Inspirational

This book is a wonderful collection of personal “essays” on our relationship with the Lord. Each entry is the equivalent of about half of an 8 ½ by 11 page so can be read in less than a minute yet is packed with biblical truth about who we are in Christ, God’s character and how that all interweaves in our relationships with Him and others. Each entry is also accompanied by a black and white photo on the facing page that makes this book something to peruse for “art’s” sake as well.

The pictures all go along with the water theme yet each one has a very different feel to it than the others. Interweaving the pictures and the prose makes a collection that is pleasing to the eye and the ear while also being a quick pick-me-up after a difficult day or a wake-up call when the reader has strayed into any number of brambles and lies.

This is one book I plan to keep handy especially for those times I fall into feeling inadequate, unloved, and like everything is blowing up in my face. Any one of these short inspirational pieces will speak to all these situations and more as well as remind me to refocus on Truth and Christ. The truth is, and Mr. Baker comes back to this repeatedly in the book, when I am experiencing these types of feelings my focus is likely on one thing, ME! … exactly where it shouldn’t be.

IN CONCLUSION: I have two copies of this book to giveaway. Please leave a comment on this post including a website or email I can use to contact you if your name is drawn.

NOTES FOR DRAWING: US Mailing addresses only. Use a camouflaged method of typing your email (such as forest_rose[at]yahoo[dot]com) to avoid the spambots. Last but not least - Only comments with a timestamp of 11:59PM Thurs Jan 31st or earlier will be eligible.

And there's another chance to win at my friend Deena's Blog if you leave a comment on her post before Friday January 25.

Here's another book giveaway from Deena. This one is for Robin Lee Hatcher's Return to Me. This contest like the previous one runs till Sept 30.
