This book could manage quite well on it’s own but as a stickler for reading books in order I am disappointed to have come into this mid or perhaps near the end of the series. Personally I would recommend starting from the beginning as with any series of books I have read. While there are elements of mystery and adventure in this book, the story is primarily a “girlfriends” plot. These four Pastor’s wives have connected out of their mutual need for support from someone that can understand and sympathize with their circumstances even though they might each be facing different trials, the basics are still pretty common to their life situations such a church politics, family members you’d rather not claim, demanding relatives, raising children in a world that is counter to Biblical concepts and so much more.
I fell in love with Lisa, Jennifer, Mimi and Felicia early on in this book and will be looking to get a hold of copies of the rest of the series as soon as I can fit them into my reading schedule. There are so many life and faith lessons as well as the growth exhibited by these women as they support and encourage one another while also trying to do the same for others around them and encourage other Pastors’ wives in their circles to find the same kind of friendship they have found amongst themselves. Even the kids experience a positive outlook on life and learn about trusting God in a variety of ways through their parents’ examples and encouragement when things spill over into their school and personal lives from the trials facing their parents. In fact there are even a few instances where the parents admit to learning something from the way their kids respond to and face some of the situations the family is struggling with.
