Knowing this author's style from reading his blog and some other writing I was prepared to enjoy this and have a truly fun read of it. I was not however quite ready for how much fun it ended up being. This was a good thing since I'd been in need of something lighterhearted than some of my recent reads and with the weather being a bit gloomy here at the moment.
I'm more of a Strawberry Shortcake and Smurfs fan than comics and superheroes however this was a great story and in the end the fact that it centered around Superheroes didn't diminish my enjoyment of a story filled with intrigue, twists, adventure, subterfuge, faith and many other elements that kept me turning pages like there was no tomorrow. The humor injected into many scenes and sometimes merely through thought or dialogue snippets kept the story lighthearted yet there are so many deep themes as well including God's unique purpose for each one of us, His unconditional love for His creation and a few very timely social issues addressed from a Biblical perspective. I eagerly await Mr. Rice's next installment of this saga. (ISBN#9781934284056, 168pp, $9.95)
